Mangatawhiri Challenge Track Hunua Ranges – Jul 2021

It has been raining for a few days and the call of the wild was getting louder. Cat and I decided to go for a hike in the Hunua Ranges and tackle the Mangatawhiri Challenge track, which is a mountain bike track. Due to the recent high winds and rain, there was little chance we would meet bikers on the track.

The rain started at the same time as our walk, luckily it stopped after 5 minutes. As expected, the track was covered with branches in multiple places and muddy. However, walking was nice and the slippery parts were handled with caution. Here and there, we had a glimpse of some beautiful scenery.

We stopped at the campground for lunch where we could see the storm approaching. It didn’t reach us until we were driving back home. The downpour was highly impressive.

We walked 17km in 4h40min.
